Windows 11 Start Menu not opening, missing apps, or showing wrong things? Here’s how to fix it.

Quick Fixes

- Press
Win + X→ Terminal (Admin) → runsfc /scannow
Fix 1: Restart Windows Explorer
Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc → Processes tab → find Windows Explorer → right-click → End Task.
Then press Win + R, type explorer.exe, press Enter.
Fix 2: Clear Start Menu Cache
Windows 11 caches your Start Menu. Delete the cache:
Press Win + R, type:
%localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.StartMenuExperienceHost_cw5n1h2txyew\LocalState
Delete the ItemData.db file.
Then restart Windows Explorer from Task Manager.
Fix 3: Run System File Checker
Open Command Prompt as Admin:
sfc /scannow
Repairs corrupted Windows system files.
Fix 4: Check for Windows Updates
Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates.
Many Start Menu bugs are fixed in cumulative updates.
Fix 5: Recreate User Profile
If the issue started recently, your user profile might be corrupted.
Settings → Accounts → Family & other users → Add account.
Move your files to the new account and use that instead.
Fix 6: Reset This PC
Settings → System → Recovery → Reset this PC → Keep my files.
If the Start Menu opens but shows wrong apps, clearing the cache (Fix 2) almost always resolves this.
