Windows 11 draining your laptop battery too fast? Here’s how to fix it.

Check What’s Draining Battery
Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc → Processes tab → sort by Power usage.
Look for programs using high GPU or CPU in the background.
Common battery drainers: Chrome, Discord, Spotify, Steam, NVIDIA/AMD GPU drivers.
Fix 1: Use Windows Battery Saver
Settings → System → Power → Battery saver.
Turn it on. Set it to turn on at 20% battery.
Also set screen off after 2 minutes on battery.
Fix 2: Reduce Display Brightness
Dim your screen. The screen is typically the #1 battery consumer.
Use Fn + F3 or Fn + F4 to lower brightness (varies by laptop).
Or: Settings → System → Display → lower the brightness slider.
Fix 3: Disable Unnecessary Background Apps
Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
Sort by Battery use. Disable apps you don’t need running in background:
- Discord, Spotify — set to “Manually managed”
- Any game launchers you don’t use
Fix 4: Disable WiFi and Bluetooth When Not Needed
Press Win + A to open Quick Settings → toggle off WiFi and Bluetooth when you don’t need them.
Fix 5: Update Your GPU Driver
Old or buggy GPU drivers cause excessive battery drain.
For NVIDIA: GeForce Experience → Drivers → Check for updates.
For AMD: AMD Radeon Software → Drivers & Support → Check for updates.
Fix 6: Change Power Plan
Press Win + R, type powercfg.cpl, press Enter.
Select Balanced or Power saver.
Set display off after 2 min, sleep after 5-10 min on battery.
Fix 7: Disable Keyboard Backlight
Fn + the backlight key (varies by laptop — look for a lightbulb icon).
Fix 8: Check for Malware
Cryptomining malware drains battery by running CPU/GPU at 100%.
Run Windows Defender full scan + Malwarebytes.
Hardware issues: If battery drains fast even with everything optimized, the battery is worn out. Check health with powercfg /batteryreport in Command Prompt.
